The House Is Taking Shape

We finished framing this week. We also completed the rough-in plumbing. For the first time since we started, you can walk through the house and actually see what it's becoming instead of just imagining it.

Right now, we're closing in the original garage. We also framed the bay window, and it's ready for its next step. Little by little, this house keeps turning into something real.

The Find Nobody Saw Coming

The best surprise this week wasn't something we planned. We found original hardwood floors hiding underneath the carpet, and they're in amazing shape. Instead of ripping them out, we're sanding them down and adding a clear coat throughout the entire house. That felt like the right call for a house this old.

We also uncovered original brass hardware scattered through several rooms. I can't wait to see how it looks once it's polished up.

Selections Are Falling Into Place

Selections have kept pace with construction this week. For the kitchen and sunroom, we chose a checkerboard floor using earth tone and sand tone tile from Floor and Decor. It's warm, a little unexpected, and it fits the rest of the house perfectly.

In the kitchen, we paired that flooring with white shaker cabinets and Siberian Frost quartz counters. Because of that pairing, the original details we uncovered, like the restored hardwoods and the brass hardware, can finally take center stage instead of competing with anything flashy.

None of this would move as smoothly without Albert at Lowe's, who manages our pro account. Ordering materials for a project like this can easily become a full-time job on its own. Thankfully, his team makes it about as painless as it gets.

And Then There's the Yard

This yard is one of the largest in the entire Chesney Downs community. During our last site visit, we watched a fox trot across the whole thing like it owned the place. Honestly, this property keeps giving us new reasons to get excited.
