It was Christmas in July night at the Union game, sponsored by Patron, and every fan walked out with their own Union Christmas hat. It's the kind of small detail that turned an ordinary summer game into one of those nights our family will bring up for years.

A Little Behind the Scenes

We had access to Club LSA before kickoff, which gave the kids a chance to meet a few players face to face before the game even started. That kind of moment doesn't happen often, and it was clearly the part of the night they'll remember longest. My husband got his own version of that surprise too, running into a friend who's currently serving as the team's interim head coach. It's a small world sometimes, even at a stadium full of thousands of people.

The Game

Union came away with a 1-0 win, which is always a nice way to close out a night like this. Christmas hats scattered through a summer crowd is a strange visual, but somehow it fit the occasion perfectly.

The real standout came at halftime, when the stadium ran a fan light display timed to Christmas music. For a few minutes, July felt like December, and the effect on the kids was immediate. Wide eyes, full attention, the whole thing. It's the kind of detail that turns a good night into a memorable one.

This wasn't something we planned weeks in advance. It came together last minute, and it ended up being one of the better nights we've had all summer. That's usually how it goes.
