We tried a new shore point this summer. After years of the same familiar spots, we spent a week in Brigantine, New Jersey. So here's how it went.

The North End Won Us Over

Brigantine has a north end that stays quiet, even in the middle of summer. That means fewer crowds, more space to spread out, and a slower pace than we expected from a Jersey Shore town.

We set up our chairs, let the kids run, and actually relaxed. If you're looking for shore time without the elbow to elbow crowds, this is the spot.

The Fourth of July Surprise

Here's something we didn't know going in. Brigantine's Fourth of July is BYO fireworks on the beach. So that caught us a little off guard.

It took some adjusting, but once we understood how it worked, it turned into its own kind of fun. Just know that it's not a big organized display like some towns offer. Come prepared, and you'll enjoy the night just as much as we did.

The Food Made the Trip

Two spots earned a permanent place on our shore trip list.

Mission Cafe runs a coffee cart right on the beach, which means good coffee without ever leaving your spot in the sand. That alone is worth the trip for the parents in the group.

Then there's Jersey Cow Ice Cream. It's second to none. We drove over almost every night, just a short trip from where we stayed, and not one of us was disappointed.

Dinner at Old Homestead Steak House deserves its own mention too. I have celiac, so eating out always comes with some extra planning on my end. The staff there went above and beyond and put together an off menu dinner just for me. That kind of care makes a real difference, and it turned into one of the best meals of the trip.

When It Rained, Smiley's Saved the Day

We had one beach day get rained out, and honestly, it turned into a highlight instead of a letdown. We headed to Smiley's Arcade and let the kids loose on the games. It kept everyone entertained for hours, and it turns out a rainy day at the shore doesn't have to be a wasted day.

A Short Ride for a Date Night in AC

One of the best parts about staying in Brigantine is how close it puts you to Atlantic City. We took advantage of that with a quick date night, and the ride was short enough that it barely felt like leaving. We spent our night at the Borgata, which is also where we ended up having that celiac friendly dinner at Old Homestead Steak House.

The Value Is Real

Brigantine gives you that classic Jersey Shore sand and water without the price tag of Sea Isle, Avalon, or Stone Harbor. So if you've been priced out of those towns, or you're just looking for something more budget friendly, Brigantine deserves a look.

We got the beach, the quiet, and the good food, all without breaking the bank.

Would We Go Back?

Without question. Brigantine surprised us in the best way, and it's officially in the rotation for future shore trips. If you've been curious about it, this is your sign to try it.
