I will be honest with you. When we decided to take the kids to the FIFA Fan Fest at Lemon Hill in Philadelphia I was not sure what to expect. I knew it was going to be fun. I did not know it was going to be one of those days we talk about for years.
If you are a Montgomery County family on the fence about going here is everything I wish I had known before we walked through those gates.

Plan Your Parking Before You Go
Let me save you the stress right away. Parking near Lemon Hill is tricky. It is not impossible but it requires a plan. We recommend using ParkWhiz to find and reserve your spot before you go at parkwhiz.com. It takes the guesswork out of what can otherwise be a really frustrating start to your day. Give yourself extra time, book in advance, and do not assume you will find something right around the corner. Getting there early makes a significant difference and sets the tone for the whole day.

Do Not Walk Past the Vendors at the Entrance
Before you even get inside take a few minutes to check out the vendors along the entrance. There is some really good stuff happening out there.
One vendor that stopped us in our tracks was giving away free children's books as part of the Summer Reading Cup challenge. Your child gets to pick eight books to take home. Eight. As a mom who is always looking for ways to keep the kids engaged over the summer that was an unexpected and wonderful surprise. Do not rush past this area. It is worth the few extra minutes before you head in.

The Activations Are Genuinely Amazing
This is not a sit and watch soccer kind of event. The Fan Fest is built around experiences and the brands showing up delivered in a big way.
The David Beckham Home Depot patio was one of our first stops and honestly one of our favorites. The kids could make their own fans, add magnets to a giant mural, and play a really fun soccer game. My kids did not want to leave and I completely understood why. It was thoughtfully designed and endlessly entertaining for little ones.
The Coca Cola fan activation was a full commitment to the World Cup spirit. Face paint, temporary tattoos representing the teams playing that day, headbands, caps. My kids came out of there looking like they were born for this tournament. It was so fun and the line moved quickly which as a mom I always appreciate.

The Bank of America charm bracelet station was my personal favorite moment of the entire day. They had special Philadelphia commemorative charms that you could add to a bracelet and take home as a keepsake. The Liberty Bell, City Hall, Rocky's boxing gloves, a cheesesteak, and the Love statue. As someone who grew up in this area and loves this city those charms meant something to me. It was a small moment but a really special one.

If You Have Access to the Orchard — Use It
We were lucky enough to have access to the Orchard and I cannot say enough about what a difference it made for our day.
A private lounge area with bathrooms, misting fans, and comfortable seating where you could watch the games and actually breathe for a minute. With little ones that kind of space is everything. It is what kept our day feeling fun and relaxed instead of exhausting.
I am not sure exactly how access works for everyone but if you have it or can get it through someone you know do not think twice. It completely changes the experience especially if you are going with young kids.

Oh and the US Won
Which made everything even better. There is something about watching your country win surrounded by thousands of people who are just as invested as you are. The energy at Lemon Hill when that final whistle blew was something I will not forget.

Why Days Like This Matter
Here is the thing about living in Montgomery County. You are twenty minutes from one of the greatest cities in the world. Philadelphia is not just a commute. It is a backyard. World Cup fan fests, incredible restaurants, historic landmarks, professional sports — all of it is right there.
